This project started with the goal of uniting two seemingly different traditions that, at their core, share similar logic: the mobile sale and transport of food in Italy and Colombia. By exploring their impact on communities—especially in a post-pandemic world—the project highlights how both practices not only feed people but also foster social connections and resilience during challenging times.
The blending of these traditions led to the development of an innovative product-service system designed to connect small food producers with local consumers through a digital platform. While apps and online marketplaces already enable producers to sell their goods, the distinctive element of this project is the use of a cargo bike as the main intermediary. Each morning, the cargo bike is stocked with fresh products and becomes a mobile delivery service and direct sales point, moving through communities.
This approach not only minimizes waste by keeping a limited inventory each day but also provides convenience to consumers who may not have access to traditional retail locations. At the same time, it strengthens community ties by connecting producers directly with their neighbors, promoting support for local goods. In this way, the system promotes sustainability and efficiency while also revitalizing social connections within communities in a world eager to rebuild closeness post-pandemic.
